Paragould school bus hit Monday morning

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - A bumpy ride to school Monday morning for some Region 8 kids after a car slammed into their bus.

Debbie Smith, superintendent for the Paragould School District, said the collision happened during the morning route.

As the bus was attempting to cross Highway 412, at the intersection near Casa Brava, she said a vehicle apparently ran the stoplight and hit the middle of the bus.

Approximately 25 students were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Smith assured Region 8 News that no students were injured; however, EMT arrived on the scene and checked each of them out. The students were then placed on a second bus and taken to school.

Per school policy, the bus driver was tested for drugs with results expected soon.

Smith said the bus sustained "quite a bit of damage on the driver's side."
