JONESBORO, AR (astateredwolves.com) – The Arkansas State baseball team will host 30 games at Tomlinson Stadium/Kell Field, highlighted by Sun Belt Conference matchups with Georgia Southern, Troy, ULM, Texas State, and 2015 NCAA Super Regional participant Louisiana-Lafayette as well as a visit from 2015 NCAA Tournament participant Ole Miss, as part of the 2016 schedule head coach Tommy Raffo announced Monday.
The Red Wolves begin the campaign with a three-game road trip to Birmingham, Ala., to play UAB Feb. 19-21 and follow with a visit to Oxford, Miss., to face Ole Miss Feb. 23. A-State travels to the Perfect Game Complex in Emerson, Ga., for the second-straight season to take on Saint Louis and Nebraska-Omaha. The Red Wolves will play the Mavericks Feb. 26 and Feb. 27, while the team will play the Billikens Feb. 27 and Feb. 28.
A-State hosts Milwaukee in its home-opening series March 4-6, which features a doubleheader against the Panthers on Saturday, March 5 beginning at 2 p.m. The Red Wolves continue the home stand with a two-game midweek series against Austin Peay March 8-9 before taking to the road for its first SBC series of the season at UT Arlington March 11-13.
The team comes back home for a midweek contest March 15 against SIU-Carbondale in front of its second consecutive weekend on the road in conference play March 18-20 at Georgia State. A-State plays a game at Missouri State March 22 before hosting Georgia Southern March 24-26 in its home SBC-opening series. The Red Wolves face rival Memphis on the road March 29, but return home March 30 for a midweek contest versus Mississippi Valley State.
Arkansas State hosts Louisiana-Lafayette (April 1-3) to begin the month before traveling to Southeast Missouri April 5 and South Alabama April 8-10. The Redhawks make a return trip to Jonesboro the following week (April 12) and A-State hosts Troy that weekend (April 15-17) in a conference series. The Red Wolves hit the road for a midweek contest at SIU-Carbondale April 19, but return home for a SBC series versus ULM April 22-24.
A-State closes a stretch of eight of nine contests at home with a nonconference clash against in-state opponent UAPB (April 26) before facing Appalachian State on the road April 29-May 1 in SBC action. The squad returns home for an eight-game home stand that starts with a three-game, nonconference series versus Northwestern State (May 6-8).
The home stretch continues with a midweek clash against Memphis May 10 and its last home SBC series of the season versus Texas State May 13-15. The Red Wolves close their home season with Ole Miss on May 17 and travel to in-state rival Little Rock May 19-21 to finish the regular season.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament is set for May 25-29 in San Marcos, Texas. The NCAA Tournament begins the following weekend (June 2-5) at 16 campus sites.
