I'm KAIT Vice President and General Manager Chris Conroy. My favorite Aretha Franklin song, is R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Respect.
The Arkansas State University Red Wolves earned respect after going undefeated in the Sunbelt Conference and outright winning the Conference championship.
Being at Centennial Bank Stadium last Saturday was a true celebration for everyone across Region 8. The fans were on the field, the players reflected on their accomplishment, and the coach got the mandatory Gatorade bath.
But one very obvious thing was missing: The Commissioner of the Sunbelt conference was not here in Jonesboro to present the trophy to the Conference Champion Red Wolves. Not only that, nobody from the Sun Belt Conference came.
They shipped the trophy here to Jonesboro instead. Think about the seniors who endured all the coaching changes; the fans who pay their hard-earned money to go to the games; the A-State leadership; and second-year coach, Blake Anderson, who seems to have the team on the right track.
They all did their part, won the conference and earned the respect. So what can we do about it?
Let's all buy tickets from the university box office and head to New Orleans to support our Red Wolves, December 19th. I have confidence that the folks who put on the New Orleans Bowl will actually present the winning trophy in person.
The Red Wolves' willingness to work hard and earn respect are the right steps to build a winning tradition, and recognizing it makes this A Better Region 8.
