BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KAIT) - Butler County received an overall performance rating of "good" in a state audit report.
State Auditor Nicole Galloway released a report of the Butler County government showing multiple findings that have been included in previous audits.
The audit found the county collector's financial activities are not properly reviewed. This includes the preparation of the county's annual settlement.
The report recommends the implementation of a new review process, and improvements in tracking taxes in the county's account book.
The report also recommends improvements to the security of electronic data the county possesses.
Right now, county employees are not required to change their passwords on a regular basis and passwords are not confidential in some offices, which can increase the risk of unauthorized access to information.
"My report highlights concerns within Butler county government operations, but also offers recommendations for improvement," State Auditor Galloway said. "I'm hopeful Butler County officials will use this information to make improvements that strengthen government accountability for their citizens."
