JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Crews conducting sidewalk renovations on Union Avenue in downtown Jonesboro uncovered some history Tuesday.

The renovation started further up on Union Avenue earlier this year.

According to Downtown Jonesboro Association Director Hailey Knight, the city is installing curb-outs to calm traffic down. There are three curb-outs left to install.

Tuesday, crews started work on one of those remaining curbs in front of the Jonesboro Radio Group.

Knight said once the concrete was chiseled away, century old bricks made in Fort Scott, Kansas were uncovered.

Those bricks were laid as the first paved edition of Union Avenue. There are conflicting reports of when the bricks were laid.
