Land O'Lakes donates large amount of food to NEA

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

‘Tis the season for giving and one food company decided to do just that Wednesday.

A truck showed up at the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas in the morning to deliver 40,000 pounds of Land O’Lakes Macaroni and Cheese.

This is the company’s 88th donation since it was established in 2010.

Paul Vickerson, a plant manager for Land O’Lakes’ Winfield company, said it’s all about giving back.

“Land O’Lakes operates, or we distribute product, in all 50 states and countries around the world so we wanted to give back to the communities that we serve,” Vickerson said.

Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas Executive Director Christie Jordan said all that food will come in handy because the need in Region 8 continues to rise.

“Sadly, that number has not decreased over the years and we really don’t distribute about half the amount of food that we need to in Northeast Arkansas to meet the needs of the poverty population in the 12 counties we serve,” Jordan said.

Over 5,000 people visit the a food pantry, soup kitchen or shelter each week in Region 8.
