Jonesboro business owner says gun sales are booming

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

According to a CBS News poll, Arkansas is the 3rd most heavily armed state in America.

The poll stated that for every 1,000 residents in Arkansas, there are about 41 guns.

That totals more than 123,000 registered guns in the state alone.

Mike Weatherford is the owner of Express Pawn, 3205 E. Nettleton, in Jonesboro.

He said business is booming with gun sales.

Although he does not know a specific percentage, Weatherford said he has seen a significant increase in gun sales in the past year.

Weatherford said anytime there is gun violence or guns are discussed in politics, more people want to purchase one.

“We have a lot of people who want to feel safe and protect themselves and exercise their rights,” Weatherford said. “It’s no different here than it is anywhere.”

Weatherford expects guns sales to continue to rise if the violence rate continues to increase in America.
