New automotive tool gives students hands-on experience

KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Kennett Career and Technology Center recently got new state of the art equipment for students.

Automotive instructors Michael Rhew and Kennett McKinney attended the 2015 SEMA show.

The show allows them to see what tools are out there and bring back the information to the students.

This year the instructors brought back an XPress 800 rivet tool.

Several new high tech cars like Mercedes Benz, Tesla and Cadillac require this tool.

The instructors said having tools like this in school help give their students hands-on experience they will use in the real world.

"We have the advancement now where he can teach his students and say here is the tool, instead of us looking at videos and stuff like that," Rhew said. "We can now do hands on with it."

The school hopes to provide more tools like this in the future to further the student's education and make them familiar with new technology.
