Eleven A-State Student-Athletes Receive Degrees

JONESBORO, AR (astateredwolves.com) – Arkansas State University held its 2015 Fall Commencement ceremony Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Convocation Center, and 11 more student-athletes from the Red Wolves' NCAA intercollegiate sports programs have now earned their college degrees.

The most recent group of A-State student-athletes to receiver their diplomas represented the sports of baseball (1), men's basketball (1), football (6), women's soccer (1) and women's tennis (2).  Within the last year, A-State has set school records for all-department GPA, Athletics Director's Honor Roll members and department-wide Academic Progress Rate (APR) score.

Additionally, Arkansas State placed 88 student-athletes on the most recent Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List (3.5 GPA or higher) and 85 on the SBC Academic Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA).  One of the multiple factors contributing to the A-State Athletics Department's recent academic success is the Red Wolves Leadership Academy (RWLA), which continues to strengthen with a new study abroad component added to foster global awareness

The student-athletes who graduated Saturday included:

Chandler Hawkins (baseball, Health Promotion), Darius Buckley (football, Biological Sciences), Carderious Dean (football, Interdisciplinary Studies), Darion Griswold (football, Interdisciplinary Studies), Kyle Harris (football, Interdisciplinary Studies), JD McKissic (football, Interdisciplinary Studies), Steven Stevens (football, Communication Studies), Josh Pierre (men’s basketball, Sport Management), Jess Heeps-Eriksen (tennis, Graphic Design), Tamara Slijepcevic (tennis, Business Administration), Samhia Simao (soccer, International Business).
