JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police say a man who broke into a convenience store and stole $1,000 worth of cigarettes left something behind: a gun.

At 5:07 a.m. Sunday Officer Josh Landreth responded to a burglary alarm at Citgo Shop & Go, 5514 S. Stadium.

Landreth said when he arrived at the store he found cigarette and cigar packages spread all over the floor behind the counter.

He also reported finding a .22 caliber revolver in the parking lot, approximately 15’ from the store’s entrance.

According to the incident report, surveillance video showed a man walk up to the store from the south carrying a large blue duffel bag and a large rock, which he used to break the glass on the front door.

Once inside the store, the suspect jumped the counter and filled the duffel bag with cigarettes and cigars. The report stated the suspect took an “undetermined amount” totaling $1,000.

After filling the bag, the suspect jumped back over the counter and ran out of the store, heading south.

About one to two minutes after leaving the store, the man returned and again jumped the counter.

“The suspect began digging through the cigarette packages on the floor with his hands,” Landreth reported. “It appeared that the suspect was looking for something that he may have left behind.”

Video showed the man once again jumping the counter and running south from the business.

A Craighead County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit called to the scene tracked the suspect southbound along Stadium then eastbound through a wooded area several hundred yards before losing the track.

The suspect, according to the report, wore black pants, black hoodie, brown boots, gray gloves and a black ski-type mask.
