Senior living community increases security measures after several burglaries

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

A senior living community fell victim to multiple burglaries and now they are increasing security.

The Westminster Village of the Mid-South, located in the 5000-block of Southside Drive in Blytheville, is working hard to secure the grounds.

Linda O’Guinn, director of Westminster, reached out to local law enforcement and the city for help to keep residents safe.

O’Guinn said thieves were snatching laptop computers from residents in the dead of night.

The city agreed to install a gate that will stay locked from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and they will add more fencing.

Since the crimes, they have added more lights and security cameras.

Donna Mosley is a resident and she said she feels safer with the new security upgrades.

“When I leave I feel safer and when I'm at home at night I feel safer,” Mosley said. “I think it's good that Westminster Village has helped us with this.”

Both Mosley and O'Guinn are very appreciative of what the city has done to help the residents sleep a little better at night.

They say they have not seen any more of these crimes since tackling the issue.
