Libertyland to Get Makeover

MARCH 14, 2005 - Posted at 3:24 p.m. CST

MEMPHIS, TN - Time was when Libertyland and the Mid-South Fair were the fair weather thing to do in the Memphis area.

The aging theme park has hired Nashville public relations firm McNeely Pigott and Fox to find ways to boost sliding attendance and make the attractions profitable again.

The non-profit group's general manager is Ron Hardin.  He says the PR company's first job is to find out where the fair and the park fit into the entertainment mix in Memphis.

That's become a richer stew with the addition of the Memphis Grizzlies and the pandas exhibit at the Memphis Zoo.

One of the questions the public relations firm will look at is whether Libertyland should relocate from the current Mid-South Fairgrounds.
