One of the victims in a fatal home invasion told police he had "no idea" who shot and killed his girlfriend.

On Monday, Dec. 21, the Jonesboro Police Department released its initial incident report on Thursday's murder.

Donald Versey, 28, told police he and Kayla Vinson, 24, were in bed around 8 a.m. when he "heard a knock on the door."

When Versey opened the door, he said two men pulled guns on him and yelled, "Where is the money?"

After telling the men "I ain't got no damn money," Versey said one of the men put a gun to the back of his head and shot him.

While Versey was on the floor, he told investigators he heard another shot.

Versey said he "got up and tried to wake Vinson up, but she wouldn't wake up."

Although Versey said he did not recognize the suspects, he believes he has seen one of the men at the "Diamond Grill or at the Gates."

According to the incident report, Versey had bullet wounds on the left side of his neck and another on top of his left shoulder.

Vinson had a bullet wound to the top right side of her head.

Officers reported she was not breathing and had no pulse when they arrived.

At the hospital, when informed her daughter had died, Vinson's mother said Versey had "just received a lump sum of cash and everyone knew about it."

The case remains under investigation.
