Grant will help food bank feed young children

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas is planning to use a recent donation to benefit the organization's Backpack Program.

The Food Bank received a grant from the Blue and You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas.

They were awarded a total of over $34,000.

The money will be used to benefit the Backpack Program, which provides foods like cereal and milk to 595 children in Northeast Arkansas.

"It's fantastic because all of the backpack food has to be able to be provided to children as young as five years old to fix it for themselves," said Vicki Pillow, director of development for the food bank.  "So, this will allow them to fix a bowl of cereal. They'll have the cereal, they'll have the milk and it will also give them the added nutrition so it's fantastic."
