NEW ORLEANS (KAIT) -

The A-State seniors are preparing for their last game as Red Wolves in the New Orleans Bowl Saturday and one Arkansas State Trooper is doing so as well.

State Trooper Robert Speer has been on the sidelines with the Red Wolves for 38 years and his time is coming to an end this year as he plans to retire.

Speer grew up watching his father, who was also a trooper, on the sidelines where he would later play for Arkansas State.

After school, he became a trooper and returned to the sidelines with the coaches.

Speer said his time with the teams and coaches is something he’ll remember.

“The past ten years have been great, you know especially the past years with all the bowl games going to Mobile, then here in New Orleans,” Speer said. “It’s been a great ride, I would do it again tomorrow.”

Speer said his decision to retire has been something he has thought hard about but he is excited to see what is in store for him next.
