Walt Bell will leave Arkansas State for Maryland

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State Offensive Coordinator Walt Bell will leave the school to take the same position at Maryland.

Bell has spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator at A-State.

Arkansas State is 10th nationally in scoring offense this year averaging 41 points per game.

Last season the Red Wolves offense broke the school record for total yards. This season A-State broke the school record for points scored in Sun Belt play.

At 31-years-old Bell was a candidate to be the youngest head coach, but withdrew his name from the ULM job.

Bell has known Coach Anderson for the last 13 years whether that be as an assistant or a player.

"When you've got a good staff, guys that do a good job you always know at some point you're going to lose one. This one hurts a little bit but yeah I've got some plans in place, we're going to stick with what we do and stay with what we do offensively. You know we've been running this system about 15 years and it really hasn't changed regardless of who is calling plays, but I'm not in a rush either. I want to make sure it's the right person," Anderson said.

But Anderson expressed his support for Bell.

"He played for me 13 years ago. I wish him the best. I'm going to pull for him. He'll do a great job, but at the same time sad to see him go."
