UPDATE: Suspect arrested in deadly Sikeston shooting

SIKESTON, MO (KAIT) -

A man is now in custody in connection with a shooting death in Sikeston Saturday afternoon.

Police said 35-year-old Antoine A. Harris-Applewhite turned himself in to the Scott County Jail around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Samuel Sanders, III, also 35, was shot in the chest, according to Captain James McMillen with Sikeston DPS.  

Officers responded to Westside Liquor, 899 West Malone, in reference to the shooting around 5 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived on scene, they found Sanders lying in the road in front of the liquor store.

Several witnesses told officers the shooting happened in the parking lot after an altercation between the two men.

Harris-Applewhite is charged with 1st degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

He is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
