Start New Year on the right foot with Jacksonport State Park hike

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) -

Ring in the New Year by taking a hike.

Jacksonport State Park will host a special family-friendly hike along the Tunstall River Walk on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016.

The First Day Hike-New Beginning Family Ramble will start at 10 a.m.

At the midway point, park staff will treat hikers to s’mores over a campfire and hot-spiced apple cider, as well as other special activities.

Park officials suggest hikers bring along bottled water, snacks, binoculars, cameras and birding books. The Tunstall River Walk, they say, is a great place to see woodpeckers and northern cardinals.

The 1.2-mile walk along the White River is level and maintained year-round.

For more information, contact the staff at Jacksonport State Park, 205 Avenue St. in Newport, at (870) 523-2143 or email Jacksonport@arkansas.com.
