Region 8 woman gets surprise of a lifetime from Jonesboro officer

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro police officer recently gave a surprise to a single mom whose finances have spiraled out of control.

Jonesboro police started using a trend in February called “Back the Blue.”

They sell t-shirts to raise money for people who work hard but still struggle financially.

Officer John Shipman gave Jonesboro resident Tina Green something she never saw coming.

“I'm giving you $300 to do whatever it is you want to do with it,” Shipman said. “That's from the sales from the Back the Blue t-shirts.”

Green is a single mom and a 6-year Navy veteran.

She has spent the past several months applying for job after job to better support her and her 9-year-old daughter.

Green hasn't been hired yet and her finances spiraled out of control.

“Two weeks ago they came and repossessed my car because I couldn't keep up with my payments,” Green said.

Although she has faced many obstacles, Green said she will remain strong.

“Through it all, I'm tremendously blessed," Green said. “I can't complain. God is faithful. He's just faithful.”

Green said Shipman became her hero and that he's an angel.

“After hearing more and more of her story I just get more and more humbled,” Shipman said. “I think I’m like everybody else. When you listen to it you want to tear up and cry a little bit.”

Green said she has received so much support from the community.

She is positive things will look up sooner rather than later.
