City Council votes to form committee for gym restoration

MARKED TREE (KAIT) - The Marked Tree City Council voted Monday night to form a committee to look at the option to renovate or tear down Carver Gym.

The council decided at their meeting that they would not turn the gym into a park.

Now a committee will be formed to decide whether the historic gym can be restored or not, according to Marked Tree Mayor Mary Ann Arnold.

The gym is the only building left of the George Washington Carver High School.

Mayor Arnold did not yet know when the committee would be formed, but said it should be soon.

She is also not sure when that committee will make their decision.

The George Washington Carver Alumni Association is working to make sure the gym is restored to save what they call precious childhood memories.
