PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Christmas came early for veterans of Greene County.
Members of the Vietnam and Legacy Veterans Motorcycle Club visited Chateau on the Ridge, Belle Meade, Sunshine Manor, and Greene Acres in Paragould Tuesday to honor local veterans.
Each veteran received a personalized robe with his or her respective branch logo and name.
A special letter accompanied the robes from Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson thanking each vet for their service.
Kenny Wright, club member, said it is their mission to make sure vets are thought of daily.
"Instead of just at some kind of special occasions," Wright said. "Our veterans serve this country. Some of them are disabled. Some of them do not have families, and at this time of giving and the joyous occasion some of them might not be afforded that pleasure."
This activity is just one of many the club does year-round to show their respect.
While they bring gifts, member Teddy Lamb said it is the conversations he remembers.
"That's our greatest joy," Lamb said. "We come and we talk to these guys, you know, and you find out a little about their story, a little bit about their history and it gives us such a warm feeling inside."
After each vet received their robe and letter, the members of the club saluted each veteran hoping to show an extra ounce of respect.
Wright said it is from the help of businesses and private donations they are able to do things like this, and this effort is not a one time thing.
"We are veterans that care about other veterans, and we are trying to help them and support them," Lamb said.
