JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Walking the beat just got a little safer for one Region 8 police officer.

The Jonesboro Police Department announced on social media Tuesday that K9 Gabo will receive a bullet and stab protective vest.

The non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. donated the body armor, which is valued between $1,795 and $2,234.

Each vest weighs 4-5 pounds and comes with a 5-year warranty.

Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

The charity, which is located in East Taunton, MA, was established to assist law enforcement agencies with potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers, the JPD said.

Since its inception in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s has provided over 1,600 protective vests through private and corporate donations.
