JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Many people who were off from school and work Wednesday planned to watch the new Star Wars movie, but the "dark side" prevailed.

Shortly after noon Wednesday, fans of Star Wars: The Force Awakens tweeted and posted on Facebook that the movie went out at the Malco Hollywood in Jonesboro. One man told Region 8 News that the movie "was about 5 minutes in" when the power went out.

Michael McWayne said the movie went out shortly after the movie began. Other movie goers stated their film cut out midway into the movie.

Jonesboro E911 Director Jeff Presley said power outages also knocked out traffic signals along South Stadium and Parker Road. High winds and heavy winds were to blame.

We're told that theater management gave patrons passes to come back and finish the movie.
