Council approves bid to sell old Fruit of the Loom building

OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) -

The Osceola City Council approved a plan to sell the old Fruit of the Loom building on Ohlendorf Road.

Mayor Dickie Kennemore told Region 8 News that the council approved this week a $2-million contract to purchase the building.

Kennemore said the company is a fabricating operation that makes metal. The contract is subject to two leases from Big River Steel and Evonick. The purchaser said they will honor the leases.

According to Kennemore, the purchasing company will make some changes to the building sometime in 2016. In September, the company will be able to retrofit the building.

Kennemore said the company plans to bring in an additional 300 jobs to the Mississippi County economy.
