Inmate found unresponsive at jail, pronounced dead at hospital

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

An inmate at the Baxter County Jail died early Thursday morning at the hospital after jail staff found him to be unresponsive.

According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, Raylen Barrett Cox, 36, of Lonoke was found unconscious Thursday. Cox was arrested on a public intoxication charge.

Montgomery said Cox was arrested Wednesday morning and was being checked on at various times during his incarceration. He was pronounced dead at the emergency room.

Arkansas State Police are investigating the death and Cox’s body will be taken to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for an autopsy.
