Blytheville basketball players get extra Christmas gift

BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

Girls on the Blytheville Middle School basketball team got an extra present this Christmas season thanks to one Region 8 woman.

The middle school coach told Tamra Woods many of her players do not have basketballs to practice with outside of school.

Woods decided she wanted to help give these players a gift so she took to Facebook with the idea.

Within weeks, several people helped donate money through a GoFundMe account to pay for thirty basketballs.

“It is amazing that people were willing to do that for them without even knowing these kids,” Woods said. “I did not even know these kids. I just felt like it was something that needed to be done for them.”

Woods presented the basketballs to the players at one of the practices before Christmas break.

“We just started tossing them out to the girls and one by one they just started grabbing these basketballs and it was just really awesome,” Woods said. “It was a blessing that everyone came together to do that.”

The team enjoyed a pizza party along with their gift. Woods said all the girls were very grateful.

She said she is thankful to live in a community that is so giving and helpful.
