Walnut Ridge passes new dog ordinance

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

A new dog ordinance for the city of Walnut Ridge passed after several months of discussion.

The eight-page document includes 34 sections and repeals four previous dog ordinances.

The ordinance requires dog owners to keep their pets in a proper confined location and not roaming the street. Owners are also supposed to keep their dogs on a lease when not confined.

The ordinance also states owners must have their dogs up to date on vaccinations and have the proper paperwork to show.

No resident within the city limits can own more than four dogs over the age of six months, excluding businesses like animal groomer, boarders or veterinarians.

An animal licensing fee was also added, along with several sections on proper treatment for the animals.

The entire ordinance can be found here.
