LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A Region 8 electric company is on standby for repairs after soggy ground and high winds caused poles to fall resulting in power outages in Lawrence County Sunday night.
Craighead Electric Cooperative communications coordinator Justin Etter said if the wind increases and the ground continues to be saturated with water it is possible that more poles could come down.
Etter told Region 8 News that this doesn't only cause power outages but can be dangerous for drivers also.
"With a pole going down like that falling across the road, we always encourage folks not to approach the poles or the downed power lines because they could still be energized," Etter said.
He said until the weather is dried up everyone will be on standby and fully prepared to help keep people safe at home and on the roads.
One piece of advice Etter gives to people who come across a downed pole is to turn around, avoid the area, and report it to 911.
