JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro man who got into a fight because a friend would not lock the front door to the apartment when he left was charged with 2nd degree battery Tuesday, according to court documents.

According to records filed in Jonesboro District Court, Matthew Eugene Taylor, 18, of Jonesboro was arrested for stabbing another man with a "carving knife” Monday night. Taylor said he stabbed the man three times in the back because the other man was on top of his chest during the altercation.

The initial police report stated that officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1600 block of West Matthews. When officers arrived on scene, the found a man “staggering around outside”. Officer Jeremy Wheelis asked the man what happened when he saw blood on his back.

“He said he had surgery on his back earlier,” Wheelis’ narrative read.

When Wheelis probed for more information, the man said he had been stabbed by Taylor.

“Matthew then walked out of the room and I could see blood on the front of his shirt,” Wheelis stated in the police report.

The police report stated that Taylor admitted to stabbing the victim.

Taylor was ordered to appear in court again Jan. 29, 2016. He was given a $2,500 bond.
