GREENE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas Methodist Medical Center hosted an active shooter drill Wednesday morning.
Employees of the hospital as well as the Paragould fire and police department and Greene County Rescue Squad participated.
The scenario surrounded an active shooter who entered the hospital and took an employee hostage.
Officers with the police department were outfitted in SWAT uniforms as they tried to talk to the shooter over the phone and persuade him to release the hostage.
Emergency personnel were also on hand to take care of any victims who were wounded.
Shay Willis, director of marketing and public relations at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center told Region 8 News, this training was timely.
"We had the incident in Jonesboro and our country is seeing more active shooters," Willis said. "We feel it's very important that we train our employees on how to respond but also that our local public officials know how to respond and they become familiar with our facility."
