Applications being accepted for new Jonesboro Pre-K center

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro schools opened its newest pre-k center Monday morning.

The center is located at 208 East Johnson Avenue, right next to Bill’s Fresh Market and includes space for up to 100 kids.

Director of Jonesboro Pre-K Diana Roush said they were able to move to a brand new building with the help of a grant available through the state.

Previously, students were being housed in the playrooms of the pre-k center located on Flint Street.

“We had approval from DHS and ABC to house those children in the playrooms for the semester because they knew we’d be here in January,” Roush said. We started looking for places in Jonesboro and we couldn’t find one that was suitable so we came to this location. Phillips construction built the building for us, we can’t buy the building with the grant but we can rent or lease the building.”

Roush said there are 3 family service managers at this site.

“They work with the families and work with the students to make sure the transition here is successful and their transition to kindergarten is successful,” Roush said.

If you’re interested in registering your child at this location, Roush said parents need to bring a proof of income as well as their child’s birth certificate, social security card, shot record and health screening.
