JONESBORO, Ark. (A-STATE) – Arkansas State women's basketball senior forward Khadija Brown-Haywood has been named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after her performances against Troy and South Alabama this past week.
The Centralia, Ill., native averaged 20.0 points and 9.5 rebounds as the Red Wolves opened Sun Belt Conference play 2-0 for the third consecutive season. She opened the week with a 15 point, six rebound effort against the Trojans in A-State's 101-81 victory. Brown-Haywood went 7-of-12 from the field and dished out a career-best eight assists in the contest.
Three days later at South Alabama, she recorded her third career double-double with a career-high 25 points and 13 rebounds in the Red Wolves' 66-53 victory. The 13 rebounds and four made 3-pointers each tied career-highs.
Through the opening week of conference play, Brown-Haywood is the only player to rank in the top-5 in both points and rebounds per game in SBC outings. For the season she is averaging 15.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest and is second on the team with 24 assists.
Arkansas State kicks off a four-game home stand Thursday, Jan. 7 against Louisiana-Monroe at the Convocation Center. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
