Man accused of beating woman with belt, buckle

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County sheriff's deputies arrested a Jonesboro man after they say he tore off a woman's clothes and beat her with a belt.

At 3:01 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to the 3800-block of County Road 780 regarding a domestic dispute.

When deputies first arrived at the scene, two women who witnessed the incident said 55-year-old Daniel Mitchell Callahan, "ripped [the] clothes off" the victim then beat her with a belt in the front yard.

When deputies entered the home, they found the 49-year-old victim naked from the waist up. According to the incident report, she had "sustained injury all over her body."

The victim said she and Callahan had been arguing when he began hitting her with a belt and buckle.

She said when the other two women attempted to stop him, "He got physical with them."

Emergency responders took the victim to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Deputies arrested Callahan on suspicion of battery-second degree and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a probable cause hearing.
