Police: Man struck girlfriend, set home on fire

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who assaulted his girlfriend and set her home on fire, according to Sheriff Jeff Yates.

According to Yates, dispatchers in Lawrence County received a 911 call. The caller said a home at 52 Lawrence County Road 269 was on fire.

When firefighters got on scene, they were told a man had assaulted a woman before the fire.

Deputies and officers with Arkansas State Police searched the area, just south of the Lynn city limits as firefighters worked the fire.

The home was a total loss.

Police said Donnie Owens allegedly ran into the woods with a knife. Officers also attempted to use a drone to find the suspect before dark.

Yates also said a homeowner discovered their vehicle was stolen near the area and believe Owens took the vehicle.

Police said they have concluded their search for Wednesday night.
