Convention center plans announced

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The vision for a new convention center in Jonesboro is getting closer to reality.

Chuck Keller announced the convention center and hotel project in the fall of 2015.

Wednesday, project architects, developers, investors and city leaders walked around the project site.

The site is located off the future I-555 on the lot where the City Services Center used to be along Browns Access Road.

Gary Harpole with Hasley Thrasher Harpole LLC showed those who attended the walk through where the primary hotel and convention center will be located.

The project financial consultant Forrest Langenfeld said the hard part is over and the project is moving forward.

"We will be coming up out of the ground within 60 days, but we have cleared the main hurdles put in front of us with getting our finances in place and getting our stuff in order," Langenfeld said.

Langenfeld said they hope to have the hotel and center built by mid-2017.

The project is expected to bring in a lot of revenue for the city of Jonesboro.

This center is a separate project from the possible convention center project on Arkansas State University's campus.
