Prosecutor announces charges against man who caused 'active shooter' alert

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Second Judicial District Prosecutor Scott Ellington announced Thursday the filing of formal charges against Brad Bartelt, the man accused of causing the A-State campus in Jonesboro to go into lockdown in December.

Ellington said Bartelt, 47, of Jonesboro is charged with making a terroristic threat, criminal possession of explosive material or destructive device and terroristic threatening.

The incident took place Dec. 10 when Bartelt allegedly drove his truck onto the A-State campus with a shotgun.

Several law enforcement agencies responded and the campus went on lockdown.

No one was injured.

Ellington issued a statement:

"I appreciate the immediate response by the Arkansas State University Campus Police, the Jonesboro Police Department, and the other state and local agencies who responded to this very serious incident. Their prompt action in this matter saved those on the campus possible death or serious injury."
