Two Nettleton Students rank among Arkansas top writers

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Two Nettleton Junior High students rank among Arkansas top writers.

Seventh graders Abby Williams and Dylan Steele received awards for their submissions to the “My Reason to Write” project sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Health.

Both students received a framed award along with new technology to help them write in the future.

Abby Williams placed second in the essay portion and won a Samsung tablet.

Dylan Steele placed first in the poetry portion and won a HP Chromebook.

The topic for the submissions was “Stamp Out Smoking”.

Both students were very surprised to win for their writing submissions.

“I was really surprised because I was not doing it to win, I was just doing it as an assignment,” Williams said.

Steele said it is great to be recognized out of all the submissions in the state of Arkansas.

“I was shocked because I did not think out of all the people that I would be one to win,” Steele said.

The students said they both really enjoy writing.

“You can just express yourself and say what you feel,” Steele said.

Steele said this award has inspired him to start a poetry blog and he plans to write on several topics including current political issues.
