Police investigate 2 armed robberies within hours of each other

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police were called to two separate armed robberies within hours of each other Saturday night into Sunday morning.

According to a police report, the first robbery happened shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday at Big Al’s grocery store, 910 Magnolia Rd.

The clerk told police she was in the back of the store cleaning when 2 white males came in and pointed a pistol at her and then demanded money.

The report stated the woman opened a register and while one of the suspects held her at gun-point, the other took $600.

The woman told police one suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans and the other was wearing light jeans and a blue pullover.

Meanwhile, another armed robbery occurred shortly after midnight Sunday morning at Exxon gas station, 1203 West Parker.

The report stated 2 short men entered the store with guns and demanded an employee for money.

The employee threw money onto the counter.

The 2 suspects demanded the employee to open the safe several times after the man told the suspects he did not have the code, according to the report.

The suspects then demanded the employee to get on his knees behind the counter and if he called police, they would come back and shoot him.

According to the report, the suspects got away with approximately $300

The employee told police he believed they got into large SUV light in color.

Assistant Manager Sunil Wadhwa said he tells the employees to give the people money in those situations.

He explained what happened that night.

"My employee was here, he was stocking the cigarettes," Wadhwa said. "Suddenly when he came... he thought the customer was coming. When he done that, there were two guys with a gun and told him to give them the money."

It is unknown at this time if the two robberies are related.

If you have any information that could help police, call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP.
