JONESBORO, AR (A-STATE) – Arkansas State senior forward Khadija Brown-Haywood has been named the Sun Belt Conference Student-Athlete of the Week after she averaged a double-double in the Red Wolves two Sun Belt Conference games this past week as the team improved to 4-0 in league play with victories over Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Brown-Haywood averaged 18.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in the two victories as the Red Wolves now sit atop the conference standings as the league's only unbeaten team through four games. She began the week with a 15-point, 10 rebound performance against ULM and then exploded for 22 points and career-high 18 rebounds against Louisiana on Saturday. Her two double-doubles give her five for the season and she now has had double-doubles in three straight games, marking the first A-State player since 2013-14 to accomplish the feat.
The Centralia, Ill., native shined in the first half of both games this week as she racked up 13 points and eight rebounds in the opening 20 minutes to help the Red Wolves take a double-digit lead into the break. Against the Ragin' Cajuns she had 10 points and nine rebounds going into the halftime break as A-State held and 11-point lead. She added 12 points and nine rebounds in the second half as the Red Wolves cruised to a double-digit win to remain as the only unbeaten in conference play through the first two weeks.
Brown-Haywood currently leads the league with 11.8 rebounds per conference game and has the highest 3-point field goal percentage at 58.8 in conference play. She also ranks third with 19.3 points per game in league play.
A-State returns to the hardwood Saturday, Jan. 16 against Appalachian State at 3 p.m. at the Convocation Center. Tickets are on sale for all remaining home games, including four mini game packs. For more information, visit AStateRedWolves.com/Tickets.
