A Better Region 8: Stay aware of surroundings in public

ABR8.jpg ABR8.jpg

Jonesboro showed big city problems this past weekend when armed robberies happened in two parts of town just hours apart.

The first happened at Big Al's grocery store shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. The clerk said two men came in, pointed a pistol at her and demanded money.  Then, shortly after midnight, another armed robbery happened at the Exxon gas station located near the busy intersection of West Parker and Southwest Drive.

That sad truth to all of this is that crime can happen anywhere at any time.

Now is a good time to think about safety. When you're out and about, know your surroundings and pay attention to people.

When it comes to your personal security, your phone can be a distraction just like it is when you're driving so put it down when you're in a public place. As a crime happens things can get chaotic.

If you witness a crime, or the unthinkable happens, and you become the a victim of crime, do your best to pay attention to the details so you can help provide police with suspect descriptions.  And most important, if you know something about the recent robberies, say something. Call Jonesboro Police at 870-935-5657 or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 935-STOP.

We can’t let the criminals win.  Keep living your life. Go to the places you go and do the things you do, just be vigilant and prepared it will make this A Better Region 8.
