Gas stations swamped with Powerball ticket sales

BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) -

Gas stations have been busy all week selling Powerball tickets.

People are buying tickets in hopes to be the winner of the $1.5 billion jackpot.

Gas stations have had lines of people buying tickets, and even many people coming in who have never bought one before.

“There have been some first timers who did not know exactly how to purchase the Powerball at first,” said Julie Bunch, store clerk at Jordan’s Kwik Stop #25 in Brookland.

Several stations in Region 8 sold thousands of dollars in tickets in just one week. The Kum & Go on Southwest Drive ranked number five in weekly sales out of all the stations in Arkansas, according to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.

Store clerks said they have had people coming in at all hours of the day buying tickets.

“Since 7 this morning we have been busy non-stop, it just now settled down this afternoon, but it will pick back up again this evening,” Bunch said.

The Powerball numbers will be announced at 9:59 Wednesday night.
