JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

An email scam takes thousands from one Jonesboro man.

The victim contacted the Jonesboro Police Department when he noticed $75,000 had been transferred from his bank account without his knowledge.

He told police earlier this month he opened an email that he believed was from a business partner.

The email attachment never opened but his computer locked up for a few minutes.

The victim contacted his business partner soon after and learned the email was a scam and the computer was probably hacked.

He monitored his bank accounts and saw $75,000 transferred from his bank account to another account for equipment.

The police report states that the victim’s bank said the transfer was made under another email address that was very similar.

The fake email account request another transfer of $90,000, but this one did not go through.

The bank is investigating the incident and they have contacted the U.S. Secret Service as well.
