Jury selection to begin in case of slain square dancer

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - The case of a Texarkana woman accused of killing a fellow square dancer in 2013 is set for jury selection to begin.

The Texarkana Gazette (http://bit.ly/1QpR2HJ ) reports that Virginia Hyatt is charged with capital murder for the death 59-year-old Patricia Wheelington, and appeared in court for her last pretrial hearing Thursday. Hyatt has pleaded not guilty and jury selection has been set for Feb. 1.

Prosecutors say Hyatt shot Wheelington multiple times Dec. 3, 2013, because she believed Wheelington was responsible for the end of her marriage.

Court proceedings were delayed after Hyatt's attorneys asked the court to order a psychological evaluation for their client. Hyatt was found to be competent.

If convicted, Hyatt faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
