POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) -

Students at one Region 8 school deserve a GR8 Job shout-out for helping America's homeless veterans.

Eugene Field Elementary School in Poplar Bluff donated 1,711 pairs of “toasty toes” socks for homeless veterans.

The children presented the donation, along with a $303 cash donation, through the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

“The Eugene Field students’ project speaks volumes about the values of area residents and their genuine support of our veterans,” said Angela Smith, VA public affairs officer. “Those of us at the VA medical center are truly inspired by their generosity and, I know, veterans in need will appreciate this donation.”

Smith said in an email to Region 8 News that the children’s act of kindness brought tears to her eyes.
