JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - When an elderly customer began screaming someone that had stolen her purse, a 17-year-old grocery clerk did not waste any time coming to her rescue. Jonesboro police say the teen took off after the suspected purse snatcher.
The alleged purse snatching happened around 4 p.m. Monday at Bill's Fresh Market, 200 E. Johnson.
The 67-year-old victim told police she was pushing her shopping cart into the store when a white male ran up and grabbed her purse then ran out of the store.
Store employee Caleb Hargrove heard the victim screaming and "took off after" the purse snatcher, the incident report stated.
Hargrove told Officer Jeremy Wheelis he caught up with the thief at Word and Church and "pushed him down into a puddle."
The suspect then handed Hargrove the purse and said, "Just take it."
After retrieving the purse, Hargrove told police he watched the suspect walk north on Church.
He then returned the purse to the victim.
Wheelis obtained a copy of the security feed showing the purse snatching and logged it into evidence. He was unable to locate the suspect.
