Lake City considers new water tower to keep up with growth

LAKE CITY, AR (KAIT) - Lake City is considering a new water tower to keep up with the town's recent growth.

Mayor Jon Milligan said the current water tower works for now, but they are looking to the future.

"You try your best to look 15 or 20 years down the road and that is what we are trying to do, we are trying to stay a head of the growth," Milligan said. "It could fall off and not come, but we need to be prepared and if we see it is going to be then we have everything in place and we can get started and move forward."

An engineer came to the last city council meeting to discuss the possibility of a new water tower and the cost.

He has been surveying the area over the past week.

"The old tower would come down and the new tower will be on the west side of town which is where the growth is going and where the engineer recommended," Milligan said.

Milligan said no exact plan is set right now; they are just in the discussion stage.

If the council does decide to build a new tower, they will have to discuss how to pay for it.

"We will make it as easy as possible on our citizens, whatever the process is we are going to make it as easy as possible," Milligan said.

The engineer will have cost estimates for the council by the end of the week.
