Overtime thriller: fight breaks out after basketball game

OSCEOLA, AR (KAIT) -

A fight between a girl and boy broke out at a rival basketball game Tuesday night in Mississippi County.

Police arrested three teens, ages 15 and 16, at Osceola High School.

Superintendent Michael Cox said the fight escalated outside the gym following the rivalry game against Rivercrest High School.

According to police, a girl swung and hit a boy with her fists. The boy then threw a punch at her, as he tried to get away from her.

Cox said the rivalry between the two teams was not to blame. Instead, he said it was an ongoing issue between the students outside of school.

He said the students are facing appropriate punishment.

“We preach this all the time about fighting,” Cox said. “It's just not the answer to anything and we're not going to tolerate that.”

The two Osceola students involved face suspension for several days.

Police could not confirm if the other teen arrested was a Rivercrest student.
