Man found wandering inside JHS arrested

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police arrested a man Wednesday after he was found wandering the halls of a local high school, again.

Around 4 p.m. Dr. Jeff Flanigan, STEM principal at Jonesboro High School, 301 Hurricane, reported a man criminally banned from the school had returned.

When Officer Jeremy Wheelis arrived at the school, he found Derrick Thomas, 18, of Jonesboro walking toward the parking lot exit on Main Street.

After stopping him, Wheelis said Thomas "would not stand still and was saying things that didn't make sense."

Unsure of his mental state, Wheelis handcuffed Thomas then spoke with Flanigan.

The principal said Thomas had been banned from the school but "kept returning over and over again," the initial incident report stated.

Flanigan reportedly said Thomas would "walk the halls and gave a false name to access parts of the school."

Wheelis arrested Thomas and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center where he cited with criminal trespass.
