MELBOURNE, AR (KAIT) - Investigators searching for a runaway instead found drugs and arrested two men.
Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence states Kevin Jay Cox, 54, of Melbourne was arrested on Jan. 25 when officers made a visit to Cox's home.
Officers suspected a girl who had run away was staying at the home. She was not found there, but officers did find drugs during their investigation.
Lawrence states officers found narcotics, a smoking pipe with white residue that tested positive for methamphetamine, a large glass containing methamphetamine and a "large quantity of good-grade marijuana."
Cox was charged the next day with five felony drug charges along with one misdemeanor.
Meanwhile, when officers initially arrived at the home they saw a man they knew trying to leave.
Lawrence states Jason Michael Roberson, 37, of Melbourne was arrested on a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a felony.
Roberson is accused of selling a shotgun to a local pawn shop, according to Lawrence. He had previously been convicted of commercial burglary and later residential burglary charges.
Cox was later released from the Izard County Jail for medical reasons. Roberson remains in jail on a $5,000 bond.
Both men are expected to be in court again on Feb. 16.
