Housing plan for homeless doesn't pass at meeting

BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The Batesville Planning Commission met Monday night to vote on a conditional use permit to turn a home on Lyon Street into a transitional house for homeless families.

The permit for the new home did not pass.

The permit was proposed by a commission member at the meeting, but died on the floor when no one would second the motion.

Monday's meeting was the result of a December meeting where the commission voted to get more information about the home.

The Community Enrichment Organization, CEO, applied for the permit last year to create their new "A Step Forward" program.

Program Coordinator for 'A Step Forward' Autumn Hunter told Region 8 News CEO has appealed the commission's decision to the city council.
